In America, especially in our communities, we the people are facing a serious financial crisis. Many have lost their jobs and many have drained their savings to try to stay afloat. The pandemic has revealed many of the disparities and hardships that many Elected officials have tried to ignore. The pandemic has also increased the poverty level.
As of 2019 in the United States before the pandemic hit us:
26 Million + people make under $15,000 a year
23 Million + people make $15,000 to $24,000 a year
23.4 Million + people make $25,000 to $34,000 a year
33 Million + people make $35,000 to $49,000 a year
47 Million + people make $50,000 to $74,000 a year
35 Million + people make $75,000 to $99,000 a year
These numbers are pre-Covid and have drastically changed. City Council Candidate, Anthony Beckford is calling for a $2,000 Basic Income for everyone, especially his constituents in the 45th, which is Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood, Marine Park, Kensington and Flatlands.
"We may be skeptical or have believed the lies of many wealthy politicians, who have told us time and time again that there is no money in the budget for the people. Or, that it is harder to prioritize certain things over others. That is a complete lie. When you prioritize the people, you are able to provide the basic needs for the people. As the U.S. being one of the richest countries in the world and New York having the most Billionaires and Millionaires, there is no way that myself and others will believe that we cannot provide the basic needs of the people. We are able to provide bailout funds for multi-billion dollar corporations and give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy. Our federal, state and local governments have placed more funds into corrupt systems and agencies and have neglected the people for far too long. I am calling on President Biden, Congress and the Senate to prioritize the people by providing $2,000 a month relief to everyone and to provide a relief package for our small businesses. A budget to fully fund Public Housing so that proper repairs and safe living conditions can exist, is needed immediately. Full funding and adequate resources for public schools in the United States is a must have and so much more. I am also calling on our New York State and New York City governments to move forward with Taxing the Rich and prioritizing the people from this day forth in every budget decision made. In order to rebuild the economy, you must invest in the people, who will then use those funds at local businesses who will then turn around and provide the revenue boost we need from the taxes they pay. They said that the pen is mightier than the sword. So let us see who has the political courage to make these much needed changes happen." - Anthony Beckford
