The known violent and bigoted Chief Terence Monahan stated in a closed-door meeting of police brass yesterday, "Cops shouldn’t fear accidentally breaking the city’s new law restricting their use of chokeholds on criminal suspects because no city district attorney will prosecute them".
He is clearly ordering NYPD officers to disregard the recently passed chokehold ban bill, which makes it a crime to modern day lynch people. This ban came about due to the countless times that the NYPD and other law enforcement agencies in this country have murdered Black Men, Women and Children in cold blood. Thia bill was one of the accountable measures that NYC now has that I was able to witness being signed and have the ceremonial pen from to honor this historic moment of accountability. A moment that myself and others have fought and sacrificed for, even with the continuous work that we are doing to bring about further change.
This order to blatantly disregard this law is criminal and Monahan must be held accountable for his words which will initiate more brutality and murder of Black and Brown people in New York City. Any silence from the administration and any Council Member, is a clear sign of complicity and lack of integrity that we cannot tolerate. I am calling for the immediate firing or resignation of Chief Terence Monahan to give a clear message to other NYPD Brass and Officers that we will no longer allow any criminal behavior to go unpunished within the NYPD. And any DA that fails to prosecute these officers must be held accountable as well.
