District Leader Anthony Beckford represents the 43rd New York State Assembly District, which includes Flatbush, Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens and a little bit of East Flatbush. Mr. Beckford is the son of immigrant parents from Jamaica, a Single Father and a United States Marine Corps Veteran. District Leader Anthony Beckford is the 3rd Vice Chair of the Kings County Democratic County Committee, as well as the Chair of both the Rules and Public Relations Committee. He is known as a Progressive, Common Sense Democrat, that has had a history of advocating regarding issues such as healthcare for all, truly affordable housing, adequate educational funding, mental health care, small business development, transit improvements andso much more. He has been known in al political circles, to be a person of integrity, compassion and a fighter for accountability. As the President of Brooklyn Political Action Network and an Executive Board Member of NYPAN, he has been consistent in his beliefs and work for the people and democracy. His time as an advocate started at the age of 12 years old, when he stopped the racist plans to rezone his school district, which meant displacements and the removal of critical funding for education. He has been an iconic voice throughout the Black Lives Matter movement in Brooklyn and throughout New York City, in his capacity as the President of Black Lives Matter Brooklyn, by not only demanding justice and change, but helping to push the passing of key legislative measures and policies to bring about accountability and justice. District Leader Anthony Beckford is a recipient of various awards and honors in regards to his advocacy, business and leadership.
Outside of politics and the movement, District Leader Anthony Beckford, has had a long run as a prominent figure in the Entertainment Industry, primarily in Music and Tours. In the industry, he has worked with Celebrities such Rick Ross, DMX, GS Boyz, J. Holiday (who he views as a brother), Rihanna, Busta Rhymes, Shawty Lo, the Kardashians, an assortment of Reality TV Stars and many influencers. He has dabbled on recording music himself. His breakout moment, was when as a member of the elite All-City High School Choir, he featured on the triple platinum hit "Graduation Song" by Pop Legend Vitamin C, which plays every graduation cycle. District Leader Anthony Beckford, performed in his church choir since he was a child, as well in school at P.S. 135, I.S. 232 Winthrop Jr High and was a member of the Mixed Choir and Gospel Choir at Midwood High School.
District Leader Anthony Beckford continues to advocate for truly affordable housing, adequate funding for education, expanded services for seniors and families, and the fight against gun violence.
