The Honorable Anthony Beckford is a reknowned Progressive Democratic Political Figure and Community Advocate. He is the former Democratic District Leader and State Committee Member of the 43rd New York State Assembly District, which includes Flatbush, Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens and a little bit of East Flatbush.  

Anthony Beckford was recently elected as the 1st Vice Chair of County Committee of the Kings County Democratic County Committee at the September 23rd County Committee Organizational Meeting. He received over 71% of the vote, to declare his victory over a liberal slate.  Mr. Beckford is the son of immigrant parents from Jamaica, a Single Father and a United States Marine Corps Veteran. In the June Democratic party, he won re-election as a Democratic County Committee Member and Judicial Delegate. The Honorable Anthony Beckford's advocacy has provided tangible results regarding issues such as healthcare, truly affordable housing, adequate educational funding, mental health, small business development,  transit, public safety and so much more. He has been known in all political circles, to be a person of integrity, compassion and a fighter for accountability.  As the President of Brooklyn Progressive Action Network and an Executive Board Member of NYPAN, he has been consistent in his beliefs and work for the people and democracy. 

As the founder of Brooklyn Progressive Alliance, he has expanded political education and engagement throughout the 43rd Assembly District and many other Brooklyn communities. His time as an advocate started at the age of 12 years old, when he stopped the racist plans to rezone his school district, which meant displacements and the removal of critical funding and resources for education. He has been an iconic voice throughout the Black Lives Matter movement in Brooklyn and throughout New York City, in his capacity as the President of Black Lives Matter Brooklyn, by not only demanding justice and change, but helping to push the passing of key legislative measures and policies to bring about accountability and justice.
