District Leader Anthony Beckford represents the 43rd New York State Assembly District, which includes Flatbush, Crown Heights, Prospect Lefferts Gardens, and East Flatbush. Anthony Beckford, the son of immigrant parents from Jamaica, is a single father, entrepreneur, mentor, and a United States Marine Corps veteran. In his political portfolio, District Leader Beckford serves as the 3rd Vice Chair of the Kings County Democratic County Committee and the Chair of both the Rules and Public Relations Committee in the Brooklyn Democratic Party. His advocacy began at the age of 12 when he successfully halted racist plans to rezone the school district, which would have led to displacements and a loss of critical funding for public schools. Throughout the Black Lives Matter movement in Brooklyn and New York City, he has been a prominent voice, demanding justice and change, while also facilitating the passing of key legislative measures to ensure accountability. District Leader Anthony Beckford continues to advocate for truly affordable housing, adequate funding for education, expanded services for seniors and families, and the fight against gun violence. He has received various awards and honors for his advocacy, business, and leadership in New York City.
